Panaji, March 28 (IANS) Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday said India was getting increasingly assertive along the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC), but that the border flare-ups between the two countries would be best resolved by discussions and confidence building measures.
Parrikar was responding to a question at a media briefing on the sidelines of the Defexpo 2016 at Naqueri plateau in South Goa, about the nature of India's response to increasing assertive by Chinese troops along the LAC.
"Our assertiveness has increased. But we believe that the solution could be by mechanisms which the two countries work out and their response is quite well. We can solve (the problem) by discussions," Parrikar said.
He cited the example of hotlines between defence officials from both countries to address flash points between troops from both sides.
Parrikar also said the main cause of the constant flare-ups along the LAC was difference of perception fuelled by confounding border terrain which made it difficult for both armies to identify each other's areas, especially along the northern parts of the border.
