5,250 people killed in Haryana accidents

Chandigarh, March 28 (IANS) Over 400 people have been killed on an average every month in road accidents in Haryana over the past 13 months, the assembly was informed on Monday.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said 5,250 people were killed in road accidents between January 1, 2015 and January 31 this year.

Replying to a question, he said 11,564 people were injured in the accidents. Khattar said 12,009 accidents occurred during the same period.

"As many as 8,912 vehicles, which had caused accidents, were traced and 8,849 drivers arrested," he added.

Four major national highways run through Haryana -- NH-1 (Delhi-Ambala-Amritsar), NH-2 (Delhi-Agra-Varanasi-Dankuni), NH-8 (Delhi-Jaipur-Ahmedabad-Mumbai) and NH-10 (Delhi-Hisar-Fazilka-India-Pakistan border).
