Kolkata, March 27 (IANS) Former West Bengal minister and Congress candidate Manas Bhuniya on Sunday accused Trinamool Congress goons of trying to kill him during an attack on a party procession in West Bengal's West Midnapore district.
Campaigning for the assembly polls in his constituency Sabang, Bhuniya claimed the attack was a "conspiracy" by the Trinamool and police to kill him.
"A Trinamool rowdy, by the name of Sadhan Mondal repeatedly attacked our people. Armed with weapons, Trinamool goons attacked our procession. At least 10 of our people have been seriously injured," he said.
The former state irrigation minister subsequently staged a demonstration outside the Sabang police station accusing police of being hand in glove with the attackers.
"Defying the orders of the higher police and administrative officers and even the Election Commission, the officer-in-charge here, joined hands with the Trinamool to get me killed," added Bhunia, an ex-state Congress president.
