Can ‘Oopiri’ recover the costs?

Oopiri (Telugu) version going strong in the USA and other overseas countries with good mouth talk and reviews. But Tamil version Thozha response is poor and will not recover expenses also in some locations in overseas. Tamil audience didn’t like that much as Telugu audience and especially according to them the dubbing is bad. Telugu version in the USA it may cross one million and touch about $1.5 million in the overall run but may not cross Manam as it did about $1.53 million. Manam crossed one million by first-week end itself. Also, it was released on Memorial day long weekend on May 26th, 2014 which might have been also helped Manam.

Oopiri Telugu version did $650,000 gross (Thursday $76,000, Friday 210,00 and Saturday $361,000) till Saturday against 108 locations where Tamil version Thozha did only $33,000 against 93 locations.

Also due to lack of planning and PVP Cinema own release, not released in some countries like Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain. Singapore also it had a partial release. UK Tamil washed out.

If PVP Cinema really spent Rs.60 Cr (Inside talk they might not have spent that much), it may be difficult to recover since it B and C centers response are not even like Soggade Chinni Nayana.

Another interesting note is that so far whatever PVP Cinema produced in Tamil all are a flop like Irandam Ulagam, Size Zero and recently released Bangalore Naatkal. In Telugu Oopiri will be the first hit after a long time back released Balupu.
