Infosys to give biofuel stoves in Karnataka district

Bengaluru, March 26 (IANS) Software major Infosys on Saturday unveiled a project for distributing 43,000 bio-fuel cook stoves over the next nine months to 21,500 families in Karnataka's Koppal district.

"The project will be implemented with NGO Samuha, which will train locals on using the stoves and build awareness among the families on their benefits," the IT company said in a statement here.

Local lawmaker Basavaraj Rayareddy distributed the first batch of stoves at Hirewonkalkunta village in the Yelburga taluka and lauded the company for taking up the conservation project.

"We will support the beneficiary families to maintain the eco-friendly stoves for many years," Infosys service offering head Suman Sasmal said.

Infosys itself aims to be a carbon neutral company by 2018 and is focused on slashing its per capita electricity consumption by 50 percent.
