Kolkata, March 24 (IANS) Holi was celebrated with verve and fervour across West Bengal on Thursday as revellers splashed colour on one another and swayed to popular music.
With the Bengali community dominating the dol celebrations on Wednesday, it was the turn for the non-Bengali communities -- predominantly Marwaris, Gujratis and Biharis -- to splurge in the festivities with gusto.
Top spots including amusement parks and community centres witnessed mass feasting and hang-out sessions as Bollywood hits played in the background. Electronic dance music dominated in certain city pockets.
Over plates of crunchy gujiyas, sev and laddoos and other sweets, the old and young alike immersed themselves in sprinkling colours generously on one another.
Tall glasses of coolers like lassi and thandai went around among revellers as they took breaks in between.
Custom-made tees and shorts, kurtas and herbal colours were in huge demand throughout the day. Since most shops were shut, hawkers and roadside kiosk-owners made good sales.
