Delhi government committed to honest administration: LG

New Delhi, March 22 (IANS) Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday expressed his resolve to "establish corruption free state" in the national capital, saying the Delhi government is committed to an honest administration and to restore probity in public life.

"The government is steadfastly committed to the establishment of the national capital as a corruption free state and has made every effort to restore probity in public life,” Jung said in an address to the Delhi assembly at the beginning of the budget session.

The budget will be presented by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, on March 28. The session will conclude March 31.

"My government provides governance and delivery of public services in a transparent and efficient manner," Jung said, adding Arvind Kejriwal government has achieved a lot in its first year by providing affordable and quality services in fields of education, health and public transportation.

"Providing accessible, affordable and quality healthcare facility is of high priority to my government. The government intends to set up 1,000 Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinics in several parts of Delhi for providing quality primary health care. One such clinic has already been started at Peeragarhi area," he said.

He said that the air pollution in Delhi has reached an alarming level and the government would ensure that all necessary measures were taken to protect environment and make the city livable for the generations to come.

"The government's efforts in organising 'odd even' formula during the first fortnight of January this year received overwhelming response from the people and on popular demand, the scheme will be re-launched during the second fortnight of April," Jung added.

He lauded efforts of the Kejriwal government with whom he has been at loggerheads over several issues.

While presenting a brief sketch of achievements and action plan of the government for steering Delhi further on the path of development, Jung stressed on support from the Narendra Modi led-central government.

“My government seeks greater support from the central government in order to better cater to the needs of the people of the national capital,” he said.

Listing the achievements of the government, he said, to put an end to the tanker mafia in Delhi, the government was on course to provide piped water supply to all the citizens of the city. The entire work would be completed in two years.

“My government provided free water up to 20,000 liters per month. The government has reduced the electricity tariffs by 50 percent for domestic consumers consuming up to 400 units per month. It was for the first time in over half a decade that there was no hike in electricity tariffs,” Jung added.

The house also made obituary references to former legislators Mehtab Chand Jain and Krishan Tyagi.

The house also condoled the death of army soldiers in an avalanche at Siachen Glacier last month and observed silence in their memory.
