Augsburg (Germany), March 21 (IANS) Borussia Dortmund came from behind to beat Augsburg 3-1 away in the 27th round of Bundesliga football tournament.
Dortmund reaped a crucial comeback win after Augsburg got a fairy tale start but were unable to hold the pace with the visitors as the match progressed here on Sunday, reports Xinhua.
The hosts ensured a perfect start on home soil after Caiuby's square pass to the back post allowed Alfred Finnbogason to break the deadlock with 16 minutes into the game.
Dortmund needed time to gain a foothold and to approach Augsburg's goal area in the first half. Winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan dragged Dortmund back into the game with an equaliser just before half-time.
After the restart, Dortmund got a grip on Augsburg's defence and grabbed the 2-1 lead in the 70th minute when Adrian Ramos teed up for Gonzalo Castro, who slotted home into the bottom right.
The 2-1 lead for Dortmund took the wind out of the host's sails, as Ramos got his name on the scoreboard as well, after tapping in his own rebound from very close range five minutes later.
With the result, Borussia Dortmund restored the five-point deficit to front-runners Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Augsburg extended their winless run to five games to drop in touching distance to the bottom three.
"My team has shown their exceptional mentality and the will to win," Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel said after the match.
Elsewhere, injury-hit Bayer Leverkusen beat Stuttgart 2-0. Bayer climbed back into Bundesliga's top six as Julian Brandt and Karim Bellarabi provided the goals to seal the 12th victory of the season.
