Two Thai police officials face probe over students' death

Bangkok, March 20 (IANS) A Thai anti-corruption commission will investigate police officials who were accused of mishandling a probe into a car crash that killed two students last week, the media reported on Sunday.

Post-graduate students Kritsana Thaworn and Thanthaphat Horsaengchai, who were both pursuing Master’s degrees at Bangkok's Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya Buddhist University, were killed when a Mercedes-Benz slammed at high speed into the rear of their vehicle.

The accident took place in Ayutthaya province's Bang Pa-in district, The Bangkok Post reported.

Online forums have been filled with condemnation of the police officers in charge of the case, with many accusing them of deliberately slowing down the investigation into the case.

The outcry has forced the transfers of police superintendent Pongpat Suksawat and Somsak Polpankhang, who was in charge of the case.

The royally sponsored cremation rites for the two victims was held on Saturday.
