Rain drains out fun from AIFW 2016

New Delhi, March 19 (IANS) Rain came as a respite from the heat for Delhiites, but it spelt trouble for the visitors at the ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW) Autumn-Winter 2016 here. Fashionistas were seen making an early exit, even as fancy installations went for a toss due to the sudden change in the weather.

Many people were seen gathered around the entry gate, and when a guard questioned if they were planning to go inside the venue or leaving, they responded with visible annoyance: "We are just waiting for our car so that we can go back, as you don't have enough umbrellas".

Truly, the sudden downpour played spoilsport on the fourth day of the fashion gala, organised by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) in association with Maybelline New York, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.

FDCI presdient Sunil Sethi was seen making some desperate calls outside the main show area of the event before designer duo Ashima-Leena's showcase. But the irony was that he was trying to solve the situation from indoors, without stepping out -- perhaps for the lack of umbrellas again.

The venue had several installations like colourful boards, silver installation of birds hanging on sleek wires, which on other days had beautified the ambience. But rain spoilt it all.

Also, the attendees were focusing more on finding shelter to save themselves from rain in areas which were uncovered.

"The moment rain started, I saw people panicking and running here and there. Even the shows have got delayed. To add to everybody's woes, there is not even a proper drainage system," one of the attendees told IANS.

Even with actress Athiya Shetty scheduled to walk the ramp for designer Namrata Joshipura later in the day, it couldn't stop some attendees from making an exit from the event.
