Law and order situation in Haryana districts under control: Officials

Rohtak/Jhajjar, March 18 (IANS) The law and order situation in Rohtak and Jhajjar districts of Haryana is under control and police are keeping a close watch, senior district officials said on Friday.

Rohtak Senior Superintendent of Police Shashank Anand told IANS on phone that the situation in Rohtak city and surrounding areas was peaceful.

"We are keeping a close watch on all activities," he said.

Police were holding marches to instil a sense of security among the people, the SSP said.

"We have sufficient number of police and paramilitary forces. If needed, we will ask for extra forces. However, the situation is very much under control," the police officer said.

He, however, did not disclose the number of paramilitary forces deployed in Rohtak.

Jhajjar Deputy Commissioner Anita Yadav told IANS on phone that the law and order situation in her area was under control.

"We are keeping a close watch and will not allow any person to act against law," she said.

As many as 30 people were killed in Haryana in February during the stir by the Jats to demand reservation in government jobs and educational institutions under the Other Backward Class category.

The Jats had threatened to resume their stir in case a law regarding reservation to them was not passed in the Haryana assembly. The deadline given by the agitators ended on Wednesday.
