Munich, March 18 (IANS) German giants Bayern Munich have renewed the contract of their Austrian defender David Alaba for three more seasons until 2021. The contract was expiring on June 30, 2018.
According to Bayern Munich official website, the Bavarian club's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on Friday, "Alaba will continue to be one of the cornerstones of our team in the years to come," reports Efe.
"The way he plays, but also how he conducts himself away from the field, are the embodiment of FC Bayern," Rummenigge added.
The Austrian player started off at Bayern when he was only 17, when Dutch Louis van Gaal was at the helm of the German team.
Alaba also played during the era of German coach Jupp Heynckes, and was among the squad that won the historical treble with Spanish manager Pep Guardiola.
After the signing Alaba declared "I'm proud that I'll continue to play for my club. I grew up at FC Bayern and I've experienced unbelievably wonderful moments here."
Before renewing his contract Bayern Munich denied rumours circulated by the media that Guardiola had convinced Alaba to move to Manchester City, where the Spanish manager is heading to coach next season.
