Thai deputy PM leaves for India

Bangkok, March 17 (IANS) Thai Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon on Thursday morning left for India on a two-day visit at the invitation of Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Prawit who is also Thailand's defence minister was accompanied by Preecha Chan-o-cha, permanent secretary for defence; Sommai Kaodira, supreme commander; Chakthip Chaijinda, police chief; Taweep Netniyom, secretary-general of the National Security Council; and Suvit Maesincee, deputy commerce minister, the Bangkok Post reported.

During his visit, Prawit is scheduled to meet Vice President Hamid Ansari, Parrikar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to widen bilateral relations and expand military, security and economic cooperation.

 

Thailand and India will celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2017.
