Delhi municipal body intensifies efforts to install LED streetlights

New Delhi, March 17 (IANS) The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has intensified efforts to replace all streetlights with LED-based energy efficient ones, SDMC Mayor Subhash Arya said on Thursday.

The decision was taken at a meeting attended by the chief engineer (Electric) of SDMC, representatives of electricity supply company BSES and other stakeholders.

"All of us have to work towards making sure that all SDMC areas are well lit with LEDs. If we succeed, the SDMC will be the first in the country to advance in the direction of modernising the street lighting system", Arya said.

The mayor said that each councillor will be provided 100 LED lights for installation as per the requirement in their wards. "The priority will be dark patches, parks and religious place," he said.

The SDMC has, so far, replaced around 1.5 lakh conventional streetlights with the LED lights.

The civic body plans to replace around 1.98 lakh to 2.05 lakh streetlights in total.
