Tokyo, March 17 (IANS) Tokyo shares opened the trading on Thursday higher following the US Federal Reserve's decision to maintain its current interest rates after its two-day policy meeting.
At 9.15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 188.03 points, or 1.11 percent, from Wednesday to 17,162.48, Xinhua news agency reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 13.52 points, or 0.99 percent, at 1, 374.02.
