Mumbai, March 16 (IANS) Key Indian equity indices were trading in the red during the afternoon session on Wednesday ahead of another crucial meeting of the US Federal Reserve later in the evening.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 24,537.61 points, was trading at 24,384.59 points (at 01.12 p.m.) in the afternoon session -- lower 166.58 points, or 0.68 percent from the previous day's close at 24,551.17 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 24,565.30 points and a low of 24,354.55 points in the trade so far.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading lower by 36.60 points, or 0.49 percent at 7,424 points.
Sector-wise, the S&P BSE consumer durables index tanked by 3.94 percent, metal index fell by 1.52 percent, auto index dropped by 1.27 percent and basic materials index went down by 1.16 percent.
