Rome, March 15 (IANS) Italian football club Udinese has announced the appointment of Luigi De Canio as the new head coach until the end of the season, replacing Stefano Colantuono.

Former Atalanta coach Colantuono was dismissed on Monday after defeat to Roma on the weekend that continued their relegation trouble in the Serie A.
The appointment marks a return for the tactician, who was previously in charge of the side from 1999-2001.
"In those two years De Canio won the Intertoto Cup in the double final against Sigma Olomouc in August 2000. In addition he reached the UEFA Cup round of 16 and the semi-final of the Italian Cup," the club added.
De Canio has already coached at Udinese 83 times: 57 matches in the Serie A, 8 in the Italian Cup and 18 in European competitions (12 Uefa Cup games and 6 Intertoto Cup games). In total, he has 38 wins, 15 draws and 30 defeats.
