Gurgaon, March 15 (IANS) A man strangled his wife to death in his house here after returning from a relative's marriage ceremony, police said on Tuesday. There were no immediate arrests.
Sangeeta Dahiya,30, was found murdered in her in-laws' house in Krishana colony.
Police said that Amit Dahiya, 35, his wife Sangeeta Dahiya and their eight-year-old son had returned from a family function late Monday night.
"Amit strangled to death Sangeeta after a heated argument over some issue and absconded after leaving his son at his in-laws house in nearby Islampur village," Assistant Commissioner of Police Hawa Singh told IANS.
"The accused told his in-laws that he was taking Sangeeta to hospital as she was feeling unwell. But, in fact, he had already murdered her," the officer said.
The crime came to light when Sangeeta's parents enquired about her condition over phone on Tuesday morning.
On the complaint of Sangeeta's brother, police have booked five members of Sangeeta's in-laws' family on charges of murder and hatching criminal conspiracy including husband Amit, his retd. Haryana Police Sub-Inspector father Raj Singh Dahiya, mother, sister and brother-in-law.
