Kochi, March 14 (IANS) MUrgency Inc., founded by an Indian-American, has been chosen as the startup of the year at the prestigious Startup Grind 2016 Conference in Silicon Valley in the US.

The San Francisco-based MUrgency was selected from amongst 1,100 startups for developing a mobile app to ensure fast emergency medical assistance, the company said in a press release here.

Brain child of Shaffi Mather, a former advisor to Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, MUrgency is a mobile app which connects people who need emergency response in real time saving precious lives and time.

The emergency feature of the app was launched in February 2016 in Chandigarh.

"We have been approached by several partners and potential funders who want to work with us, expand our reach and build MUrgency as the leading emergency response brand across the world," Mather was quoted as saying.

MUrgency was launched in academic partnership with Stanford ChangeLabs, Harvard Asia Center and MIT Global Health. It's an initiative of the World Economic Forum's Forum of Young Global Leaders Community.
