Tokyo, March 14 (IANS) Tokyo shares opened the trading on Monday higher on a better-than-expected Japanese machinery orders data released earlier the day and the rise in oil prices.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 254.18 points, or 1.50 percent, higher from Friday to 17,193.05, Xinhua reported.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 16.27 points, or 1.20 percent, at 1,375.59.
