James Gandolfini's 'Criminal Justice' gets summer premiere

Los Angeles, Mar 14 (PTI) Actor James Gandolfini's TV mini-series "Criminal Justice" is moving forward with a summer (16) premiere date.

The late "Sopranos" actor starred in the pilot episode of the eight-part series before his death in June, 2013.

Three months later, in September, 2013, Robert De Niro signed on to replace James, but he dropped out in 2014 due to scheduling issues and John Turturro subsequently took on the lead role.

He will play Jack Stone in the series, about a New York City murder case.

Turturro has links to both actors - he previously starred alongside De Niro in four films, while Gandolfini appeared in 2005's "Romance & Cigarettes", which was written and directed by Turturro.

Gandolfini developed the US adaptation of Peter Moffatt's acclaimed 2008 BBC drama of the same name, and will posthumously be credited as an executive producer.

The show also stars "The Wire" actor Michael Kenneth Williams, ER's Glenne Headly, and The Sopranos' Max Casella.
