Porbandar (Gujarat), March 12 (IANS) The Indian Coast Guard on Saturday added a new ship to its fleet here to ramp up security along the 1,600-km coastline of Gujarat.
The ship C-156, built by Bharti Shipyard at Goa, will be based at Pipavav port under the command of the North-West Coast Guard region, according to officials.
Chief Secretary G.R. Aloria was the chief guest at the induction ceremony of the ship which was held in the presence of Coast Guard Inspector General V.S. Pathania.
Defence spokesperson, Wing Commander Abhishek Matiman said the 27.65 meters long ship of 107 tonnes can achieve a maximum speed of 35 knot and is fitted with cutting edge navigation and communication equipment.
