Nainital, March 11 (IANS) Several organisations were up in arms on Friday against the Harish Rawat led-Congress government's decision to allot land to the Jindal Group for a residential varsity in Uttarakhand.
Angry at what they called was a "blow to environmental concerns", these groups led a protest march in Tallital on Friday till the commissioner's office and demanded cancellation of the land allotment.
They also alleged that the state government had not followed the laid down norms and rules while making this land allocation and said they feared for damage to environment in the ecologically sensitive Nainisar area of Almora district where this varsity will come up.
The protest is led by the Uttarakhand Parivartan Party (UPP), CPI (ML), Krantikar Adhikar organisation volunteers and Mahila Manch workers.
UPP president P.C. Tiwari said the protesters said they will take their protests further if the state government did not pay heed to their demands and concerns
