Hero MotoCorp opens innovation centre in Jaipur

Jaipur, March 11 (IANS) Hero MotoCorp has opened Global Centre of Innovation and Technology here at an investment of Rs.850 crore, a statement said.

"The Center of Innovation and Technology (CIT) is the result of our bold vision to position Hero MotoCorp as the leading source of innovation and green technology," said Pawan Munjal, chairman, Hero MotoCorp in a statement.

According to the company, CIT is committed to innovate on sustainable mobility solutions for both India and the world at large with its state-of-the-art laboratories and design studios under one single roof.

The facility also boasts of the best global technologies in new product design and development, prototype manufacturing, testing and validation at its 16-km-long track with 45 different surfaces to simulate real Indian and global road conditions, said the statement.

Hero MotoCorp CTO Markus Braunsperger will lead the CIT operations manned by 500 automotive experts with regional and global expertise.

He said: "Within this facility we are establishing new work processes and enhancing our technical skills to global benchmarks. We will compete globally, attracting the best talent from India and across the world."

The new facility has been incorporated with green technologies in its design for executing eco-friendly operations and has received platinum rating with 91 points from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

"The CIT will also generate direct and indirect employment in the region and assist in it's the socio-economic development. The local community stands to benefit from the growing economic and development activity initiated due to the CIT," the statement added.

After ending its collaboration with Japanese Honda, Hero MotoCorp is laying great emphasis on scaling up in-house R&D capabilities. Maestro Edge and Duet scooters are its first products developed completely by its R&D team.
