China to import 100 Russian service robots by 2017

Beijing, March 11 (IANS) China is set to import 100 service robots from Russia by 2017, a media report said on Friday.

The robots will be imported by China's Keysi Microelectronics Co., Ltd. from Russian startup Promobot, the People's Daily reported.

Each robot is priced at about $10,000 and the two firms will also work together to complete the product support in Chinese language.

The two sides are still under negotiation about details of the order including the total price and joint production line.

Service robots assist humans in performing jobs that are dirty, dull, dangerous or repetitive, including household chores.

According to the International Federation of Robotics, the total number of professional service robots sold in 2014 rose by a solid 11.5 percent compared to 2013 to 24,207 units up from 21,712 in 2013. In 2014, about 4.7 million service robots for personal and domestic use were sold, 28 percent more than in 2013. The value of sales increased to $2.2 billion.
