Documents on Platini-Blatter cooperation seized in FFF raid

Paris, March 9 (IANS) The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed on Wednesday that its headquarters was searched at the request of the Swiss judicial authorities, indicating that documents on the cooperation between former UEFA head Michel Platini and former FIFA president Sepp Blatter, were confiscated.

A spokesperson from FFF told EFE that the search was carried out on Tuesday by agents of the French financial prosecution to find "documents relating to the cooperation of Platini with FIFA during the period from 1998 to 2002".

The law firm representing Platini in France said in a statement it welcomes "this new stage" because the sooner the Swiss justice proceedings are completed, the sooner Platini can be free from the courts.

Platini's lawyers explained that they were not informed "in advance" about the search, emphasising that they found about the raid through the press.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Attorney General of Switzerland announced that it has raided and searched the FFF offices in Paris with the consent of the latter and in collaboration with the French judicial authorities in connection with the criminal proceedings against former FIFA president Blatter.

The authorities have confiscated documents related to the payment of $1.8 million by Blatter to former UEFA president Platini -- both former heads are suspended from practicing in any soccer-related activities against the backdrop of corruption allegations.
