New Delhi, March 8 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission on Tuesday issued notice to the Haryana government over the inconvenience faced by senior citizens and others while getting their names corrected in state Social Welfare Department records.
The commission said there were a number of widows and elderly and handicapped people whose names were not correctly entered in the department lists.
Though the beneficiaries were running from pillar to post to get their names corrected in official records by submitting affidavits, their names were allegedly not updated.
Due to the delay, senior citizens were unable to avail of the benefits of central and state government schemes from time to time, the commission said.
Taking sou motu cognizance of the matter after a media report, the NHRC issued a notice to the state chief secretary and sought a report within four weeks.
