Shooter Jitu finishes fifth in 10m Air pistol

Bangkok, March 5 (IANS) Indian shooter Jitu Rai reached the final of the 10 metres Air pistol to eventually finish fifth on competition day three of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup for Rifle and Pistol here on Saturday.

Jitu, fresh after a gold medal-winning performance in the 50 meres Air Pistol, shot 580 to qualify for the eight-man final in seventh position, before being eliminated in fifth position and after the 14th shot in the 20-shot final.

The first position was won by Brazil’s Felipe Almeida Wu who shot 201.9 in the final to beat Wil Brown of the United States who shot 201.4. Xuan Vinh Hoang of Vietnam clinched the bronze medal with a final round score of 180.1.

Prakash Nanjappa of India shot a qualifying round score of 572 to place 21st in the event while Gurpreet Singh shot 569 to place 29th.

In the men’s 50 metres Rifle Prone event, India’s Gagan Narang shot 617.1 in qualifying to place 13th in the final standings while Chain Singh shot 616.4 to place 19th. Sanjeev Rajput shot a score of 608 and ended in 49th place in the competition.
