Madrid, March 5 (IANS) Rayo Vallecano's Venezuelan striker Nicolas Fedor has been elected as February's best footballer in Spain's first division, La Liga.
The award was given to the player on Friday after a vote took place between sports journalists and editors on Spain's Liga online portal. The results were announced via Twitter with a photo of the Venezuelan international receiving his award, reports Xinhua.
On February 21, Fedor became Rayo's first player to ever score a goal in five consecutive matches when he scored against Sevilla in the Vallecas Stadium to equalise 2-2.
Fedor, known as "Miku", overtook Mexican goalscorer Hugo Sanchez and Bosnian Elvir Molic, who both scored goals in four consecutive matches while wearing the Rayo shirt.
The 30-year-old scored the five goals against Celts de Vigo, Deportivo La Coruna, Las Palmas, Sporting de Gijon and Sevilla.
According to Spanish media, Fedor is getting closer every day to returning to his goalscoring form from his 2011-12 season with Getafe, where he scored 12 goals.
However, he is currently injured after suffering a micro tear in his femoral biceps during a match against Real Betis last weekend.
Fedor came to Rayo in Madrid at the start of the season after terminating his contract with Qatar side Al Gharafa. He had been with the club since 2013.
Previously he has played for Spanish sides Valencia and Getafe as well as Scottish side Glasgow Celtics.
