Kolkata, March 2 (IANS) A woman has been apprehended from near the international border in West Bengal for allegedly smuggling in over eight lakh Bangladeshi taka, the Bangladeshi currency, the Border Security Force said on Wednesday.
Roma Mondal, 50, was apprehended by the troopers on Tuesday from under Gunarmath border outpost area in North 24-Parganas district.
"Acting on specific intelligence, we launched a special operation in which we nabbed Roma Mondal and seized 8.50 lakh Bangladeshi taka from her. The accused along with the seized notes has been handed over to the customs office," said a BSF spokesperson.
The BSF, so far in the year, has seized over 16 lakh in Bangladeshi taka and apprehended an Indian national and a Bangladeshi, from across the South Bengal frontier.
