Madrid, March 1 (IANS) Madrid authorities have fined Real Madrid's Colombian footballer James Rodriguez 10,400 euros ($11,310) for driving his car at high speed and evading the police.
The Spanish security committee of Alcorcon confirmed the penalty, which was initially announced on February 19, reports Efe.
Under the law, the maximum fine should be imposed on those who disobey or resist the authorities.
The player can appeal against the fine or pay it within 15 days from the date of notification.
This incident dates back to January 1, when Rodriguez was chased by police for driving his car at high speed of over 200 km (125 miles) an hour en route to the Sports City of Real Madrid in Valdebebas.
The police asked Rodriguez to stop the car but he ignored the orders, although he later claimed that he had neither seen the police car nor heard the warning whistles.
