Bhubaneswar, March 1 (IANS) Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced that a medical college will be set up in the mineral-rich Keonjhar district at an investment of Rs.500 crore.
Addressing a gathering in the district, he said it was long-pending demand of Keonjhar's people and the proposed medical college would be totally developed by the state government and would be the state's fourth government-run medical college.
The state has three medical colleges and hospitals at Cuttack, Berhampur and Burla.
Patnaik said the medical college would help providing quality health care to the people, especially the tribal people in the district.
The chief minister also announced for construction of a flyover at Joda in the district to ease traffic congestion.
During his day long tour to Keonjhar, Patnaik also distributed bonus to construction workers and Kendu leaf pluckers.
The state government had earmarked Rs.500 crore for construction of 5,000 permanent houses for construction workers.
He also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for different projects worth Rs.496 crore.
