Myanmar forms advisory commission for parliament

Nay Pyi Taw, March 1 (IANS) Myanmar has formed an advisory review commission for the Union Parliament comprising the two Houses to cooperate in handling legal affairs and special cases, parliament sources said on Tuesday.

The commission was established with 35 members, led by previous speaker of the House of Representatives U Shwe Mann. The commission is assigned to report to the new parliament about legal issues or special cases that may arise, Xinhua reported.

The commission also deals with promulgation, withdrawal and amendment of laws.

The parliament-formed commission replaces one formed earlier by the House of Representatives headed also by U Shwe Mann.

U Shwe Mann urged all stakeholders to remove misunderstanding and doubt and work for the country with honesty.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Union Election Commission U Tin Aye disclosed at an election review meeting that he will retire from politics in the new government's tenure.

The first session of the newly-elected parliament started on February 8.
