Bihar cricket body takes on BCCI over Lodha panel report

Kolkata, March 1 (IANS) Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) secretary Aditya Verma on Tuesday criticised the Indian cricket board over its decision to move the Supreme Court over difficulties in implementation of the Justice R.M. Lodha Committee recommendations.

"Besides announcing its decision to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court against the Lodha Committee recommendations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has also got its affiliated state units like Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Baroda, Mumbai etc. to challenge the report," Verma said.

"This is an act of conflict of interest by the BCCI as it is the same board which stood by the committee when they suspended Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from the Indian Premier League (IPL)," he said.

CSK were banned for two years in July for betting in the IPL during its sixth edition.

Verma, whose public interest litigation in the Supreme Court eventually led to the constitution of the Lodha Committee, charged the BCCI with trying to subvert and violate the committee report which has made several recommendations, including restrictions on honorary members and office bearers.

Earlier in February, the apex court sought a reply from the cricket board on the implementation of the Lodha panel recommendations, giving it four weeks to file its response.
