No official memorial for MH370 this year: Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 29 (IANS) Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai on Monday announced that the country will not hold a memorial service for the missing Malaysia Airlines' flight MH370, the search for which still continues in the Indian Ocean.

Liow said the Speaker of Parliament will give a short speech in memory of the 239 people aboard the plane that went missing on March 8, 2014.

By June, the search operation conducted by Australia, Malaysia and China will finish combing an area of 120,000 sq.km. at a remote part in the Indian Ocean where remains of the plane are believed to lie.

Liow did not specify if the search will continue if it does not produce results, saying the decision should be taken jointly by the three countries involved in the operation.

Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, left the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 12.41 a.m. on March 8, 2014 and disappeared from radar screens about an hour later, while over the South China Sea.
