Los Angeles, Feb 26 (IANS) The Wolverine director James Mangold will helm Disneys Captain Nemo, an 'origin story' about the heroic protagonist of author Jules Vernes novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Writer-director Sebastian Gutierrez is working on the latest draft of the film. However, the origin story of Captain Nemo is not a straight adaptation of the novel, reports variety.com.
Mangold is currently prepping the next instalment in The Wolverine franchise, starring Hugh Jackman, so Captain Nemo is likely to follow that.
Disney previously adapted the book into a 1954 film that starred Kirk Douglas and James Mason, who portrayed Nemo.
This project is not the only 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea property in showbiz, as 20th Century Fox is currently developing its own version, which centres more on the book than the Nemo character, with Bryan Singer on board to direct.
