Kolkata, Feb 26 (IANS) Dismissing the proposed alliance between the CPI-M and the Congress, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said the combine's candidates would forfeit deposit in all the seats in the coming state assembly polls.
"Let there be an alliance between the CPI-M and Congress... that's very, very good. I want the alliance to be formed officially. Their candidate will forfeit their deposits in all the seats," she said while participating in the discussions on the governor's address in the state assembly.
Banerjee said the proposed alliance was nothing but an unholy nexus. "We have forged an alliance of the people, which will take on this next. We will come back with the people's mandate," she asserted.
The opposition later criticised the chief minister for her "attitude", and said such comments did not behove the high constitutional post she held.
Scoffing at Banerjee's remarks on the alliance, leader of the opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra said: "Look who is saying. How many times has she forged alliances? The people of the state are well aware of this."
"Sometimes she aligns with the Congress, sometimes with the BJP, again with the Congress, again with the BJP. She should stand before a mirror," the Communist Party of India-Marxist leader told media persons after the house adjourned for the day.
Leader of Congress legislature party Manas Bhuniya said "The chief minister's attitude is not right. Why does she get agitated all the while? Her attitude does not behove a person holding such an important post."
