New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) The BJP on Tuesday criticised Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for addressing a protest march organised by various student organisations to condemn the "institutional killing" of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad University and accused him of playing with the future of students.

"Since Narendra Modi became prime minister, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress are trying to defame his government. He (Rahul) is continuously indulging in negative politics and has now emerged as the prime face of negative politics in the country," BJP secretary Srikant Sharma said at a press conference.

Accusing Gandhi of playing with the future of students, the BJP leader urged him not to do politics over students of the country.

"You fight with us politically, but please don't play with the future of students. Please don't support those who are talking to break and divide the nation. On his way to oppose the government, Rahul has started endorsing anti-nationals," Sharma said.

"Rahul went to support them, rather he should have gone to JNU and asked the accused students to surrender before police and face the law. He should do positive and constructive politics rather doing negative and destructive politics," he added.
