New Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Monday urged the Jat protestors seeking reservation to maintain "peace, harmony and brotherhood" as it said that it was a matter that concerned the government with the courts having no space to intervene.

"It is a government matter, not sure if there is a space for us to intervene," said a bench of Chief Justice T.S.Thakur and Justice Uday Umesh Lalit in the course of the mentioning of a PIL by advocate Ajay Jain seeking a free hand for the army to deal with the situation.

Noting that the PIL could come in due course, the court said: "There is no reason to believe that the government is not doing anything."

As the petitioner sought to draw the attention of the court towards the law and order situation as police stations, shops were being attacked and lawyers not being able to reach courts in Rohtak, the court wondered what some lawyers were doing in Patiala House Court complex.

As Jain sought to describe everything as a political gimmick, the court said that it was for the leaders to decide and political issues should not be raised before it.

Meanwhile another petition has been filed in the apex court seeking that the arms looted by the agitators from the police stations and gun shops should be recovered from them.
