New Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS) The car free day -- an initiative by the Delhi government to curb rising air pollution in the city -- was observed in a southern part of the national capital on Monday, making it the fifth such event.
The car free day was observed from Munirka T-point to Hyatt Hotel T-point on Vivekanand Marg in South Delhi.
Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai, who led the car free day rally at Munirka Bus Stop on Vivekanad Marg, said: "Next car free day will be organised at Loni Road in northeast Delhi."
He also appealed to the people to participate and help in making a success of the second chapter of odd-even scheme, due from April 15 to 31.
Rai said the "Aam Aadmi Party government is taking every initiative to bring down the air pollution level in the city."
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish sisodia, however, gave the event a miss.
AAP legislator from Malviya Nagar Somnath Bharti and AAP legislator from R.K. Puram Pramila Tokas led the cycle rally.
Among other leaders present at the event were legislators Naresh Yadav from Mehrauli (South), Ajay Dutt from Ambedkar Nagar (South), and N.D. Sharma from Badarpur.
