New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS) The Bar Council of India has set up a three-member panel to probe the role of lawyers who assaulted JNU students and media persons at the Patiala House court here.

The three-member committee, headed by a former high court judge, has been asked to submit its report within three weeks, Bar Council chairman Manan Kumar said.

A section of lawyers on Monday assaulted journalists and Jawaharlal Nehru University students before JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested for sedition, was to reach the court.

On Wednesday, Kanhaiya Kumar himself was assaulted when he was brought to the court. He has been sent to judicial custody till March 2.

Asked what action would be taken against guilty lawyers, Manan said: "The action includes suspension of the lawyers' licences for their entire life. We will remove the name of the lawyers from the Bar Council rolls."
