New Delhi, Feb 17 (IANS) The Supreme Court on Wednesday appointed a team of six senior lawyers to go to Patiala House court to observe the situation there and report back.
The apex court bench comprising Justice J.Chelameswar and Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre constituted the six-member senior counsel team after senior counsel Indra Jaising on Wednesday afternoon told the court that the courtroom of the Metropolitan Magistrate is bolted from inside and all those inside are fearing for their safety as sloganeering is going on outside.
Referring to a news channel report, counsel Prashant Bhushan told the court that one reporter T. Anwar has been beaten up at Patiala House court.
The six lawyers team that has gone to Patiala House court comprises Kapil Sibal, Rajeev Dhawan, Dushyant Dave, Ajit Sinha, A.G.N. Rao and Harin Rawal.
Kapil Sibal told the court that stone pelting is going on at the Patiala House court complex, a submission denied by police commissioner B.S. Bassi after he was contacted by phone in the courtroom itself by the senior counsel for Delhi Police Ajit Sinha.
The court indicated that if the situation goes out of control, then they may shift the venue of the trial.
