Boxer Mary Kom Enters Sag Final

Shillong, Feb 13A (IANS) India's star woman boxer M.C. Mary Kom stormed into the final of the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) beating Bangladesh's Akter Shamina here on Sunday.

The 2012 Olympics bronze medallist was adjudged the winner via a technical knockout in the 51 kg category.

"Mary is in fine form but could not get time to display her punches," Chhote Lal, her personal coach, said after the match.

"She could not get time to display her punches. But I am happy with her performance," Lal added.

The five-time world champion will be in the ring against Sri Lanka's K. Anusha Dilrukshi in the final on Tuesday.

The Sri Lankan boxer outboxed Nepal's Gurung Minu 3-0 in the other semi-final match.

Amidst loud cheers, Mary Kom put up a top-notch show in the ring to enter the final.

The five-time world champ did not sweat much as she made short work of Bangladesh's Akter Shamina.

In the men's bantamweight (56 kg) category, World Championship bronze medallist Shiva Thapa beat Bangladesh's Mohammed Ohiduzzaman.

Pooja Rani (75kg) and L. Sarita Devi (60kg) also eased into their respective finals. Mandeep Jangra (69kg), Manoj Kumar (64kg) and Madan Lal (52kg) also entered the finals of their respective categories.
