New Delhi, Feb 11 (IANS) Leading automobile major Honda Motor India Pvt (HMI) on Thursday conferred the ninth Young Engineers and Scientists (Y-E-S) award on 14 Indian students from the premier IITs.
"It has been our endeavour to promote and encourage young students to involve in higher research in the field of technology. We want to provide them the opportunity with Y-E-S awards so that they can fullfill their dreams," said HMI India director Keita Muramatsu in a statement.
Instituted in India for the first time in 2008 by Honda Foundation, the Y-E-S award entails cash scholarship of $3,000 for each of the 14 students from eight Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT): Delhi, Bombay, Roorkee, Madras, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Guwahati and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Y-E-S award programme aims to foster young students excelling in science and technology with aims to pursue higher academic achievements in the area of Eco-technology.
The cumulative grade point average (CGPA), technical papers, essays and a one-on-one interview with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) director Shirish Garud encompassed the assessment for conferring the awards.
"So far we have awarded 112 such students in 9 years," added Muramatsu in the statement.
