Lucknow, Feb 9 (IANS) The future of the BJP was bright in Uttar Pradesh, union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday.
In the city on a two-day visit where he met Bharatiya Janata Party office bearers and workers, the former party president said nobody needs to worry about the prospects of the party for the assembly elections due next year.
"Nobody needs to worry, the future of the party is good in the state," he told reporters.
Party sources said Gadkari had meetings with senior party leaders and took "serious feedback" on the existing political situation in the state.
The party recently fared badly in various bypolls, as well as in elections to local bodies and panchayats.
The party had stunned its opponents by winning 71 of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the 2014 general elections.
Political observers feel the BJP was, for now, ill-prepared to take on regional parties like the Bahujan Samaj Party and the ruling Samajwadi Party.
