Los Angeles, Jan 30 (IANS) George Miller's directorial Mad Max: Fury Road and Todd Haynes's directorial Carol bagged two awards each at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts International Awards (AACTA) here.
The fifth Australian Academy International Awards event, which was held at Avalon Hollywood on Friday, honoured Mad Max: Fury Road with the awards for Best Film and Best Direction, reports variety.com.
This year marks the first time weve seen an Australian film, Mad Max: Fury Road, win at our domestic awards in Sydney and then again at our International Awards in Los Angeles, and were delighted to see our US and British counterparts also recognise this excellence with Oscar and BAFTA nominations, AACTA and American Film Institute CEO Damian Trewhella said.
Meanwhile, Carol won awards for Best Lead Actress (Cate Blanchett) and Best Supporting Actress (Rooney Mara). The Best Lead Actress won Blanchetts seventh honour from the Australian Film Institute.
