It's a Tendency to Look Down on Our Language: Milap Zaveri

New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS) Writer-director Milap Zaveri, who has written adult comedies like "Masti", "Grand Masti" and has directed "Mastizaade", feels that it's due to the language barrier that people find such films distasteful and feels that "it's a tendency to look down on our language".

"I feel its a problem of the language barrier. We see the same things in English with the 'American Pie' and 'We Are The Millers'... we laugh and enjoy. I think it's a tendency to look down on our language and say 'oh Hindi main cheap lagta hai' (Oh it sounds cheap in Hindi)," Zaveri told IANS.

"Right from nautankis (folk theatre) at the grassroot levels in small towns, its kind of naughty humour is so prevelant. So for people who find it cheap, why are you watching it online then?" he added.

The director says his responsibility is only towards the audience, who wish to enjoy the film.

"My job is to make the film funny and people enjoy (the film). People who have come to see a certain 'masala', enjoy it. That is my responsibility," said Zaveri, who has also written movies like "Main Tera Hero" and "Ek Villain".

Zaveri's directorial, which is slated to hit the screens on Friday, also features actress Sunny Leone, Vir Das and Tusshar Kapoor.

Talking about Sunny, who would be seen playing a double role in "Mastizaade", he said: "They are two sisters Laila and Lilly Lele. Laila is the bombshell, bikini clad Sunny the world loves and wants to watch. While Lilly is a total opposite. She is a nerd, dorky and geeky. I tried giving funny to Sunny."
