10 Sexual Partners ‘an Ideal Number” for Most British: Poll

London, Jan 22 (IANS) For most people in the world, it may sound like an exaggerated claim but according to a British poll, 10 is just perfect when it comes to an "ideal number of sexual partners" one should have in one's life.

The results came after asking over 1,000 people online by Britain's largest dating site IllicitEncouters.com, that also revealed that having less than 10 sexual partners was considered "sexually inexperienced".

"The dating game is changing so quickly. I think we are all becoming a lot more tolerant and sexually adventurous," Christian Grant from IllicitEncounters.com, was quoted as saying in an Independent report.

"If we had conducted this poll ten years ago, men would have expected a potential partner to have slept with far fewer people," Grant added.

According to the poll, men were wary of women who had a higher score than 10 while any number above 20 sexual partners was considered a sure turn-off.

"Nearly 35 percent of women and 30 percent of men reported that they would want to know a partner's number of previous sexual partners," the report said.

A previous research has found that women's sexuality is more flexible and adaptive than men's and romantic opportunities appear to influence women's sexual identities more than men.

"Women have a greater probability than men of being attracted to both men and women which gives them greater flexibility in partner choice," said Elizabeth Aura McClintock, assistant professor of sociology at the Indiana-based University of Notre Dame.
