In 1966, Krishnam Raju made his debut with the film Chilaka Gorinka. From initially doing villain roles successfully Krishnam Raju gradually developed into a hero and later a producer with the film Krishnaveni. He produced some of the popular films like Amara Deepam, Bhakta Kannappa and Mana Voori Pandavulu etc on his banner. Films like Katakatala Rudraiah, Rowdy Rangoon, Bebbuli Raraju earned him the title of Rebel Star.

With a film like Bobbili Brahmanna, Krishnam Raju showed the true stamina of Telugu cinema in the slab system. It was a Baahubali of its time and the film later became a template upon which many blockbusters were made in the Southern film industry. He was offered highest remuneration many times but Rebel Star rejected them. Instead, he concentrated on making movies of his choice. With a film like Thandra Paparayudu, Rebel Star showed his passion as a maker.
