January 14th, 2016 will be 40 years since the release of the film Padi Pantalu starring Superstar Krishna. The film released in 1976 amidst tight competition and emerged as a winner. It was a film which Superstar declared a huge hit on the launch itself.
Before getting into the details of the success of the film, it is more important to look into the situation that prevailed before its release. Back then, Superstar Krishna was going through a low phase. He had tasted historical success with the film Alluri Seetharamaraju released in 1974 and ever since its release, was struggling to come up with decent success.
It was during this phase, in 1975, Superstar Mahesh Babu was born on August 9. Two months later in October, the film Padi Pantalu was launched and Krishna on the day of launch announced with supreme confidence that this would be the film to get him back on track. His words came true few months later when the film released for Sankranthi 1976.
Padi Pantalu, a complete village based film starring a huge cast of 46 members, released amidst heavy competition with films of NTR (Vemulawada Bheema Kavi) and Sobhan Babu (Pichi Maraju). Superstar Krishna broke his long spell of lack of success and delivered the biggest hit among these releases.
Padi Pantalu was directed by P Chandrasekhar Reddy with screenplay provided by Hanumantha Rao. Vijaya Nirmala acted as heroine in the film. on the occasion of completion of 40 years we wish Padmalaya Banner.
